Chapter Two: The Courthouse Trap

Harrison filed Khloe’s divorce petition under seal.
It requested an emergency freeze on marital assets, forensic access to company records, and a protective order preventing Richard from moving funds.
The hearing was scheduled at the Montgomery County Courthouse.
Richard learned about it forty-eight hours beforehand.
He came home furious.
Khloe was sitting in the library, reading a book about newborn care, when he slammed the petition onto the table.
“You hired your brother?”
Khloe looked up calmly.
“I needed legal advice.”
“You froze my accounts.”
“The court froze them.”
“You had no right.”
“They are marital assets.”
Richard’s face hardened.
“You have no idea what you are doing.”
For the first time in six years, Khloe did not shrink beneath his anger.
“I know exactly what I am doing.”
Richard stared at her as though she had become a stranger.
Then he smiled.
It was not the charming smile she had once loved.
It was the smile of a man deciding how dangerous she had become.
“You will regret humiliating me,” he said.
The next morning, Harrison sent a security driver to collect her.
At the courthouse, reporters gathered near the entrance. News of the Harrington divorce had already leaked.
Harrison noticed immediately.
The filing had been sealed.
Only court personnel and the parties should have known.
Someone had informed the press.
Inside, Richard appeared with four attorneys.
Vanessa was not supposed to be there.
Yet Khloe saw her standing beside a marble column outside the courtroom, dressed in white, one hand resting over the slight curve of her stomach.
The sight struck harder than any message.
Vanessa was pregnant.
Richard approached Khloe before the hearing.
“We can settle this privately,” he said.
“You mean quietly.”
“Think about the baby.”
“I am.”
Richard lowered his voice.
“If you let Harrison continue, he will ruin all of us.”
Khloe glanced toward Vanessa.
“Some of you deserve it.”
The hearing lasted less than an hour.
Harrison presented enough evidence to convince the judge that Richard had moved marital assets through undisclosed companies.
The freeze remained in place.
The court also ordered Richard to surrender company devices for forensic examination.
Outside the courtroom, reporters shouted questions.
Khloe kept walking.
Then Vanessa stepped into her path.
“You think you won?” Vanessa whispered.
“Move.”
“You are carrying a child Richard never wanted.”
Khloe’s hand instinctively went to her stomach.
Vanessa smiled.
“He told me the truth. He stayed because your brother frightened him.”
“Whatever he told you was designed to control you.”
“You are jealous.”
“No,” Khloe said. “I pity you.”
That word changed everything.
Pity.
Vanessa’s face twisted.
She reached for Khloe’s arm.
Khloe pulled away.
“Do not touch me.”
Richard stood several feet away, frozen between them.
Harrison was speaking to a reporter near the doors when he heard Khloe call his name.
He turned.
Vanessa shoved forward.
Khloe lost her balance at the top of the staircase.
The courthouse erupted into screams.
By the time Harrison reached the landing, Khloe was unconscious.
Paramedics arrived within minutes.
Vanessa insisted it had been an accident.
Richard said he had not clearly seen what happened.
Harrison said nothing.
He watched both of them carefully.
Then he noticed the camera mounted above the courthouse entrance.

A red light blinked steadily.
Everything had been recorded.
