Chapter Six: The Hidden Copy

Aaron Pike had known someone would order him to erase the courthouse footage.
He had been repairing security systems for the county for nine years. He had seen files disappear before politically sensitive hearings.
So he created an automatic backup.
The recording had been transferred to a private cloud server seconds before its deletion.
Pike gave Evelyn the login information.
Then he disappeared.
Harrison obtained the footage.
The video had no sound, but the images were unmistakable.
Vanessa blocked Khloe’s path.
Khloe attempted to move around her.
Vanessa grabbed her arm.
Richard stepped closer.
Khloe pointed toward the exit.
Vanessa shoved her.
But the most important moment came afterward.
Richard did not rush to his wife.
He reached for Vanessa.
He pulled her away from the railing and whispered something into her ear.
Then, while Harrison ran toward Khloe, Richard removed Vanessa’s phone from her handbag and placed it in his pocket.
“He took her phone,” Daniel said.
“Why?”
“Evidence,” Naomi replied.
Harrison replayed the sequence.
Richard’s reaction was too controlled.
He had not expected the fall.
But he had expected a confrontation.
The footage was sent to the district attorney, federal investigators, and three independent news organizations simultaneously.
Harrison refused to allow one office to bury it.
By noon, Vanessa was arrested on charges including aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
Richard was questioned about evidence tampering.
Judge Kensington publicly recused himself from all related proceedings.
Privately, he called Harrison.
“You have made a serious mistake.”
Harrison recorded the conversation.
“Which one?”
“Turning a family tragedy into a political spectacle.”
“Your daughter attacked my sister.”
“My daughter panicked.”
“She threatened her first.”
“Pregnant women say emotional things.”
“Do judges usually excuse violence as emotion?”
Kensington’s voice became colder.
“You think your reputation makes you untouchable.”
“No. Evidence does.”
“Evidence can be interpreted.”
“Not this recording.”
“You should consider the future of your niece.”
Harrison’s grip tightened around the phone.
“Was that a threat?”
“It was advice.”
“Then here is mine. Do not contact me again unless your attorney is present.”
Harrison ended the call and sent the recording to federal prosecutors.
That evening, Richard appeared at the hospital despite the protective order.
Security stopped him in the lobby.
He asked to speak with Harrison.
Against Khloe’s wishes, Harrison agreed.
Richard looked exhausted.
“Vanessa is going to blame me.”
“Should she?”
“I did not tell her to push Khloe.”
“But you told her to confront her.”
Richard looked away.
“You need to understand Vanessa. Her father controlled everything she did. Her career. Her relationships. Even the pregnancy.”
Harrison studied him.
“What does that mean?”
Richard lowered his voice.
“Vanessa’s baby is not mine.”
“Then whose is it?”
“I do not know.”
“You expect me to believe that?”
“The affair was real. But the pregnancy was part of a plan.”
“What plan?”
“To force me to remain loyal to Kensington and Vale.”
Richard glanced toward the security guards.
“I have records.”
“Where?”
“Somewhere they cannot find.”
“Bring them to me.”
“I need protection first.”
Harrison stepped closer.
“You watched my sister fall and tried to hide evidence.”
“I was afraid.”
“So was she.”
Richard’s eyes filled with shame.
“I can help you destroy them.”
May you like
Harrison did not blink.
“You are included in them.”
