Chapter 2 – The Doctor's Suspicion
The emergency room exploded into motion.
Doctors rushed Hannah into intensive care while pediatric nurses examined Owen.
Dr. Rebecca Collins entered only moments later.
She had treated countless exhausted new mothers.
This wasn't exhaustion.
This was abuse.
She carefully examined Hannah's wrists.
Then her shoulders.
Small bruises covered both upper arms.
Older bruises colored her ribs.
Fresh scratches marked her neck.
"Who brought her here?"
Ethan stepped forward.
"I'm her husband."
Dr. Collins looked directly into his eyes.
"Did you cause these injuries?"
The question hit Ethan like a bullet.
"No."
His answer came instantly.
"I've been out of state."
The doctor silently nodded.
She believed him.
Then she spoke the words that changed everything.
