Chapter 13 - THE LAST FALSE HEIR
Victor entered Lily’s hospital using a stolen physician badge.
He carried a syringe and a forged transfer order claiming Lily needed emergency surgery at another facility.
A nurse challenged him. Victor knocked her down and pushed Lily’s bed toward the service elevator.
Claire, Ethan, and Nathan arrived as the doors closed.
They took the stairs.
On the parking level, Victor forced Lily into an ambulance driven by Doctor Mercer, who had escaped custody during transport with help from a bribed marshal.
Nathan jumped onto the rear step as the ambulance accelerated.
Claire followed in Ethan’s SUV.
The chase tore through rain-slick streets. Mercer ran two red lights and struck a parked car. Inside the ambulance, Nathan fought Victor while Lily screamed.
Victor pressed the syringe toward Lily’s arm.
“You were never supposed to know whose child mattered,” he hissed.
Nathan slammed his wrist against the cabinet. The syringe fell.
Mercer swerved onto a bridge construction lane. Ethan pulled alongside. Claire lowered the window.
“Nathan, jump!”
Instead, Nathan ripped open the rear doors and pushed Lily’s stretcher toward the edge. Ethan matched speed while Claire and two agents pulled Lily into their vehicle.
Nathan jumped last.
The ambulance crashed through a temporary barrier and stopped with half its body hanging above the river.
Mercer crawled out. Victor remained trapped behind the wheel.
“Help me!” Victor shouted.
Nathan moved forward, but the ambulance shifted.
Victor looked at Claire. “Your father begged too.”
The confession froze everyone.
Ethan’s body camera recorded every word.
The ambulance dropped another inch.
Victor smiled anyway.
“You still need me alive to prove it.”
