Chapter 3 – A Son Chooses Justice
The next morning, Daniel called a press conference instead of quietly protecting the Bennett family name.
Executives, lawyers, and reporters filled the company's headquarters.
Standing beside Emily and Margaret, Daniel spoke into the microphones.
"My family benefited from a crime committed decades ago."
"Today that ends."
He announced an independent investigation into every financial transaction connected to his late father's estate.
Properties purchased through illegal funds would be surrendered.
Scholarships would be created for abandoned and trafficked children.
Several former hospital officials, now elderly, were questioned after newly uncovered evidence surfaced.
Others had already passed away.
The investigation could not erase the past.
But it finally revealed the truth.
Margaret publicly accepted responsibility for believing the worst about Emily.
In front of every guest who had witnessed the wedding disaster, she slowly knelt before her daughter.
"I'm not asking you to forget what I did."
"I'm asking for the chance to spend whatever years I have left trying to deserve your forgiveness."
Emily stared at the woman who had destroyed her wedding dress only a day earlier.
Hatred would have been easier.
Instead, she saw another victim.
A mother who had lost forty-two years because someone else's greed had stolen them both.
Emily helped Margaret back to her feet.
"I'm willing to start over."
