Chapter 6 - THE SECRET HARRISON BURIED

Harrison opened the lockbox in a secure evidence room.

Inside were ledgers, photographs, encrypted drives, and one yellowed legal document.

A prenuptial agreement.

Khloe’s signature appeared on the last page.

So did Harrison’s.

Six years earlier, Harrison had reviewed the agreement before Khloe married Richard. He had discovered a clause giving Richard control of several family trusts if Khloe died while still married.

Harrison had demanded it be removed.

Richard’s lawyers produced a revised version.

Harrison approved it.

But the document in the lockbox was the original.

His signature had been copied from the approval page and attached to the wrong agreement.

It looked as if he had allowed the clause.

Nora studied the page. “Richard planned to use this against you.”

“He wanted Khloe to believe I sold her out.”

“Would she?”

Harrison did not answer.

Khloe had trusted him more than anyone. That trust was the one thing Richard could not buy, so he had tried to poison it.

Detective Morales entered with bad news.

“Vanessa’s attorney says she’ll surrender tomorrow morning.”

“That isn’t bad news.”

“She wants immunity in exchange for testimony against Richard.”

Harrison’s voice hardened. “She pushed my sister down thirty steps.”

“And she claims Richard threatened to kill her.”

“Fear doesn’t turn your hands into someone else’s hands.”

Morales agreed, but the district attorney was under pressure. Richard’s lawyers were flooding the press with stories claiming Khloe attacked Vanessa in a jealous rage.

By evening, edited video clips spread online. One showed Khloe raising her hand moments before the fall. The rest of the movement was cropped out.

Harrison held a press conference outside the hospital.

“My sister is unconscious,” he told the cameras. “Her daughter is fighting to breathe. The people responsible are trying to rewrite what hundreds witnessed with their own eyes. They will fail.”

A reporter shouted, “Did you approve a prenup that profited Richard if your sister died?”

Harrison’s face remained still.

Richard had leaked the forged document.

That night, Khloe woke.

Harrison rushed into her room.

Her eyes found him, confused and afraid.

“Harry?”

“I’m here.”

“The baby?”

“Alive. A little girl. She’s strong.”

Tears slipped into Khloe’s hair.

Then she saw the news playing silently on the television. Harrison’s photograph appeared beside the headline: BROTHER’S SIGNATURE ON DEADLY PRENUP.

Khloe looked back at him.

“Did you sign it?”

May you like

Before Harrison could answer, her heart monitor began to race.

And behind him, Richard walked into the room carrying flowers.
