Chapter 17 - The Shareholder Meeting
The auditorium was full.
Investors.
Executives.
Reporters.
Attorneys.
Adrian stood near the stage wearing the same confident smile Ryan had seen thousands of times.
When Emily entered beside Ryan, the smile cracked.
Only for a second.
But she saw it.
Adrian approached.
“Emily.”
She said nothing.
“You look well.”
Ryan stepped between them.
“Don’t.”
Adrian smiled.
“Still letting emotion control you, cousin?”
Ryan almost reacted.
Then stopped.
Emily noticed.
Adrian noticed too.
Ryan said calmly.
“Not anymore.”
The meeting began.
Adrian moved first.
He accused Ryan of unstable leadership.
Poor judgment.
Personal scandal.
He displayed the airport photographs.
He suggested Ryan’s surprise children created legal uncertainty around the Harrison trust.
Emily felt fury rise.
Then Adrian made his mistake.
“These children appeared without warning after nearly five years.”
Ryan stood.
“They did not appear.”
The auditorium quieted.
“They existed.”
“They were simply hidden from me.”
Adrian smiled.
“By whom?”
Ryan looked directly at him.
“You.”
The screen behind the stage changed.
Emily’s pregnancy letter appeared.
Then the delivery receipt.
Then Adrian’s internal file.

Adrian’s face changed.
Ryan continued.
“You intercepted notice that my wife was pregnant.”
“You falsified communications.”
“You forged approvals.”
“You stole company funds.”
Adrian laughed.
“You have no proof.”
Emily stepped forward.
“Actually, we do.”
Melissa’s recording began.
Adrian’s own voice filled the auditorium.
Ryan was always easy when it came to loyalty.
The room erupted.
Adrian turned toward the exit.
Two federal investigators entered from the rear doors.
His smile disappeared completely.
Ryan watched his cousin scan the room.
For an escape.
For an ally.
For anything.
Then Adrian looked at Emily.
“You think this fixes what he did to you?”
Ryan froze.
Adrian smiled cruelly.
“I sent the screenshots.”
“But he chose to believe them.”
Emily’s chest tightened.
Adrian continued.
“He threw you away.”
“He lost five years.”
“That was him.”
Ryan looked at Emily.
Pain moved through his face.
Because Adrian was right about one thing.
Manipulation explained Ryan’s mistake.
It did not erase it.
Emily stepped toward Adrian.
“You’re right.”
The room became silent.
Ryan looked down.
Emily continued.
“He failed me.”
Ryan closed his eyes.
“But that doesn’t excuse you.”
She pointed toward the investigators.
“And today, both truths matter.”
Adrian’s arrogance finally disappeared.
The investigators escorted him away.
The room exploded into questions.
But Ryan heard only Emily’s words.
