Chapter 6 - THE BLACK SUV

Security alarms screamed.
The SUV stopped halfway inside the lobby, spraying glass across the floor. Rebecca shoved Claire behind a concrete column as two men jumped from the vehicle.
They were not there to kill anyone.
They were there to take Rebecca.
One grabbed her coat. She drove her elbow into his throat and broke free. Claire snatched a metal sign stand and swung it into the second man’s knee.
Hospital security flooded the lobby.
The attackers ran, abandoning the vehicle.
Inside the glove compartment, police found burner phones, zip ties, and a printed copy of Rebecca’s photograph.
The SUV belonged to a shell company linked to Caldwell Heritage Holdings.
Rebecca sat in a locked consultation room with detectives while Claire listened.
“I never went to Europe,” Rebecca said. “Adrian put me in a private treatment center under a false name. His family told everyone I had a breakdown.”
She described months of confinement, forced medication, and legal threats. She escaped with help from a nurse, then lived under another identity.
“Why come back now?” Claire asked.
“Because I saw the Harbor Crown announcement. I knew they had found another woman whose property they needed.”
Maya arrived with Lucas an hour later.
Rebecca’s face hardened.
“You signed the statement that called me unstable.”
Maya began to cry. “They threatened my daughter.”
“You still signed it.”
“Yes.” Maya’s voice broke. “And I have hated myself every day since.”
Lucas stepped forward. “That’s enough.”
Rebecca looked at him. “You helped move me.”
Claire turned slowly toward Lucas.
He denied it.
Then Naomi played security footage recovered from the treatment center.
Lucas appeared on-screen, wheeling a sedated Rebecca through a private entrance.
Maya stared at her husband.
Lucas reached into his jacket.
Officer Ramirez drew his weapon.

But Lucas did not pull out a gun.
He pulled out a small remote control—and pressed the red button.
