Employees filled the enormous atrium.

“The merger is canceled.”
Applause erupted.
Maya raised one hand.
“This company will undergo a complete independent investigation.”
“Any executive connected to illegal contracts will be removed.”
“All restricted technologies will be reviewed with federal authorities.”
“And a portion of annual profits will fund children who leave foster care without family support.”
Elena watched her daughter with tears in her eyes.
Colonel Vance stood in the front row.
Senator Price stood beside him.
Maya continued.
“For most of my life, I was told that having no known family meant having no value.”
“I know now that a name can be stolen.”
“A history can be hidden.”
“A legacy can be buried.”
“But human worth does not come from blood, wealth, or inheritance.”
