Chapter 16: The Mausoleum

The Montgomery family mausoleum stood inside a private cemetery north of Manhattan.

Victoria arrived twenty minutes before the agents.

She dismissed the driver at gunpoint and entered alone.

The replica Silver Queen sat inside the black case beneath her arm.

Emily remained connected to the tracker through Daniel’s tablet.

“What would she keep there?” Daniel asked over the phone.

“Insurance,” Emily said. “Victoria never trusted anyone completely.”

Agents entered the cemetery quietly.

Inside the mausoleum, Victoria removed a marble panel behind Charles’s empty grave.

A steel box lay hidden inside.

She opened it.

The tracker’s microphone captured her whisper.

“Let us see who owns the bloodline now.”

Inside the box were passports, cash, account numbers, and a small recording device.

Victoria had secretly recorded Charles for years.

She had evidence connecting him to murders, bribery, and Project Crown.

But she had also recorded herself.

Her arrogance had preserved every crime.

Daniel’s voice echoed outside.

“Victoria Montgomery, come out with your hands visible.”

Victoria froze.

She looked at the Silver Queen.

Understanding spread across her face.

“It was a fake.”

Emily spoke through the device inside the figurine.

“Yes.”

Victoria stared at it.

“You.”

“You underestimated the waitress.”

Victoria’s lips curled.

“You will never belong in this family.”

Emily’s voice remained calm.

“There won’t be a family after this.”

Victoria raised a pistol and fired into the Silver Queen.

The tracker went silent.

Agents breached the mausoleum.

Victoria fired once toward the entrance, then dropped behind the marble tomb.

No one was struck.

Daniel ordered her to surrender.

She refused.

For several tense minutes, Victoria remained hidden.

Then Ethan stepped forward from behind an armored vehicle.

“Mother.”

Her voice came from inside.

“You brought them here.”

“You brought this on yourself.”

“I built everything for you.”

“No,” Ethan said. “You destroyed everyone for yourself.”

Victoria stepped into view.

The pistol hung loosely in her hand.

She looked older than Ethan had ever seen her.

“You were supposed to inherit an empire.”

“I would rather inherit nothing.”

Her expression hardened.

Then she placed the weapon on the floor.

Agents moved in and handcuffed her.

As Victoria was led away, she looked toward the shattered Silver Queen.

Her kingdom had ended beside an empty grave.
