Chapter 8 - THE WOMAN WHO CHANGED SIDES
Elaine Parker asked to speak privately.
She had coordinated the gala for six months and had seen Victoria’s instructions change during the final week.
“She ordered Khloe’s security detail moved downstairs,” Elaine said. “She also changed the suite reservation so Isabella would have access.”
“Why didn’t you report it?” Marcus asked.
Elaine looked ashamed. “Because Victoria threatened to destroy my company.”
Khloe studied her face. “Why are you talking now?”
“Because I saw you on that floor.”
Elaine handed over a voice recording made during a planning meeting.
Victoria’s voice was unmistakable.
Keep Marcus downstairs. Isabella only needs a few minutes. Khloe is emotional. One ugly scene, and the press will do the rest.
Then Nolan’s voice asked, And if she refuses to leave him?
Victoria answered, Then we create a stronger reason.
The recording ended.
Marcus paced toward the window, fighting to control his anger.
Gabriel called the police investigator assigned to the case.
But before the file could be transferred, the hospital’s fire alarm began screaming.
Red lights flashed.
Smoke appeared under the conference room door.
Owen checked the security panel and swore.
“The fire is in the evidence room.”

Elaine grabbed Khloe’s hand before the officers moved them apart. "I am sorry I waited," she said. Khloe squeezed once. "Then do not wait again. Tell them everything." Elaine nodded and followed the investigator, carrying the first piece of evidence Victoria had failed to control.
