Chapter 10 - THE MAN IN GENEVA

Andrew did not sleep that night.
At 3:14 a.m., he sat alone in the mansion library watching an old video of his father.
Thomas Whitmore was fifty-one in the recording.
He stood beside a lake, laughing as twelve-year-old Andrew struggled to start a small motorboat.
“Don’t fight the engine.”
Thomas’s voice came through the old speakers.
“Understand it first.”
Andrew paused the video.
For years, he had remembered his father as a dead hero.
A brilliant businessman.
A fearless man.
Margaret had shaped every memory.
She told Andrew which stories mattered.
Which failures were noble.
Which enemies were responsible for their family’s collapse.
Then Mariana came along.
She helped rebuild everything.
Margaret hated her almost immediately.
Andrew had always assumed it was class prejudice.
Now he understood there might have been something deeper.
Mariana threatened a plan that began before Andrew even met her.
At 7:30 a.m., Mariana arrived at headquarters.
Gabriel was waiting.
So was an investigator from Geneva joining by secure video.
A photograph appeared on the screen.
The older man from the bank.
“We have a probable identification.”
Mariana looked toward Gabriel.
The investigator continued.
“The individual has used the name Theodore Mason for at least eleven years.”
“He has maintained residences in Switzerland and Portugal.”
“He is connected to several entities tied to Northstar Meridian.”
“Do you believe he is Thomas Whitmore?”
“We are waiting on biometric comparison.”
Gabriel leaned forward.
“What is his connection to Margaret?”
The investigator opened travel records.
“Regular contact.”
“At least sixteen documented meetings over five years.”
Mariana’s jaw tightened.
“And Andrew?”
“No confirmed meetings.”
The investigator changed the screen.
“We also found something else.”
A company diagram appeared.
Northstar Meridian connected to dozens of smaller entities.
Some were active.
Some had dissolved.
One name stood out.
Crescent Harbor Foundation.
Mariana recognized it immediately.
“That’s Margaret’s charity.”
“Yes.”
“She has raised millions through it.”
“Yes.”
“Where did the money go?”
The investigator paused.
“That is the problem.”
“Much of it was routed back through Northstar.”
Gabriel leaned back.
“A circular funding structure.”
“Possibly.”
Mariana looked at the numbers.
Charity donations flowed into Crescent Harbor.
Crescent Harbor paid consulting and logistics contracts.
Those companies sent money to Northstar.
Northstar quietly received money from Whitmore International.
The system was not a simple theft.
It was an ecosystem.
And Margaret had placed Mariana in the center of public charity events for years.
Her face appeared on invitations.
Her signature appeared on donor letters.
Her reputation had unknowingly been used to legitimize it.
Mariana finally understood why Margaret wanted her gone quickly.
Once Mariana started asking questions, the entire structure could collapse.
Her phone rang.
It was Andrew.
She answered.
“Mariana.”
His voice shook.
“There’s someone at the mansion.”
“Who?”
May you like
“He says he’s my father.”
