Chapter 15 - The Betrayal Inside Voss Tower

Elena did not accuse anyone.

She changed one number.

That was all.

Three versions of the shareholder strategy were distributed to three trusted people.

Jonathan received a meeting time of 9:00 a.m.

Amelia received 10:30.

The legal director received noon.

Then Elena waited.

At 4:17 that afternoon, Elias filed an emergency motion referring to the noon meeting.

Elena stared at the court document.

Jonathan stood beside her.

“The legal director.”

Her name was Caroline Reese.

She had worked at Voss Global for fourteen years.

She attended Elena’s father’s funeral.

She had protected Elena during two hostile acquisitions.

Elena called her office.

Empty.

Security checked the lobby cameras.

Caroline had left thirty minutes earlier carrying one bag.

Her phone was disconnected.

Her company laptop had been wiped.

Jonathan slammed his hand against the desk.

“Fourteen years.”

Elena said nothing.

“She sat in this room with us.”

“I know.”

“How long?”

“Long enough.”

They searched Caroline’s access history.

She had viewed the Founders Covenant archive repeatedly.

More troubling, she had accessed sealed medical documents six months earlier.

Meridian.

Caroline had been the bridge between Elias and the clinic.

Jonathan looked sick.

“We trusted her.”

“My father trusted Elias.”

Elena stared at the screen.

“Trust doesn’t become evidence just because it lasts a long time.”

Then another alert appeared.

The court had granted Damian temporary relief.

Effective immediately, Elena was prohibited from liquidating additional disputed marital assets.

Worse, a special master would review ownership of the companies Damian claimed he helped build.

Damian’s attorneys issued a statement within minutes.

Elena Voss had abused hidden corporate power to destroy her estranged husband.

The narrative changed instantly.

Television commentators questioned whether Elena’s original actions had been revenge disguised as governance.

The board began receiving calls from nervous investors.

Two directors requested an emergency vote.

Jonathan looked at her.

“This is what Elias wanted.”

“Yes.”

“He’s destabilizing the company.”

“Yes.”

“We can still control the vote.”

Elena looked toward the board roster.

“Can we?”

Jonathan understood.

If Damian inherited Margaret’s shares and Elias controlled eighteen percent through nominees, Elena’s forty-one percent might not be enough.

Her phone rang.

The caller was one of the company’s oldest directors.

“Elena.”

“Yes?”

“I’m sorry.”

Her expression changed.

“For what?”

“I can’t support you at the meeting.”

The call ended.

Jonathan stared at her.

“One?”

Elena’s phone rang again.

Then again.

May you like

Three directors withdrew support within twenty minutes.

For the first time, Elena was no longer certain she controlled her own board.
