Chapter 17 - The Counterattack

The shareholder meeting began at ten.
Hundreds attended in person.
Thousands more watched remotely.
Damian entered beside Elias.
Cameras followed them.
Damian looked different.
Not powerful.
Determined.
For the first time, he believed he had a legitimate reason to stand against Elena.
His mother.
Her erased history.
Her money.
Her pain.
Elena could see it in his face.
He no longer thought he was fighting only for himself.
That made him more dangerous.
Elias addressed the shareholders first.
“For years, Voss Global has operated under concealed control.”
Murmurs spread.
He presented records showing Elena’s ownership.
He framed secrecy as deception.
Then he introduced Damian.
“My mother helped build the foundation of this company.”
Damian’s voice was steady.
“She was erased.”
“I was raised without knowing what had been taken from her.”
“And today, I am asking that her lawful interest be recognized.”
Applause broke out from part of the room.
Elena waited.
Elias smiled.
Then nominee companies began disclosing their voting positions.
Eight percent.
Eleven.
Fourteen.
Seventeen.
Eighteen point six.
Jonathan leaned toward Elena.
“He committed all of it.”
Elena nodded.
Exactly as planned.
Elias called for the vote.
Before it could begin, Elena stood.
“I have no objection to recognizing Margaret Shaw.”
The room quieted.
Damian looked surprised.
Elena continued.
“Her contribution was real.”
“Her removal from company history was wrong.”
“And I will correct it.”
Damian’s expression shifted.
“But inheritance must be based on fact.”
Elena raised a document.
“In 2001, Margaret Shaw legally redeemed her entire ownership interest for twenty-three million dollars.”
Elias’s face changed.
Damian looked at him.
“What?”
Elena displayed the transaction records.
“Those shares ceased to exist.”
“The twenty percent Damian was promised does not exist.”
Damian turned toward Elias.
“You said—”
Elias cut him off.
“She’s lying.”
Elena pressed a button.
The original bank certification appeared.
Then the signed redemption agreement.
Caroline Reese had taken the archive copy.
She had not known a duplicate existed with the company’s former bank.
Elena looked directly at Elias.
“You built your takeover on shares that vanished twenty-five years ago.”
The room erupted.
Elias remained still.
Then he smiled.
“You think that matters?”
Elena’s eyes narrowed.
May you like
Elias lifted another document.
“I never needed Damian’s twenty percent.”
