Chapter 6 - What Damian Really Wanted

Damian’s penthouse felt foreign without staff.

The house manager had resigned.

The chef had stopped answering.

Even the private security detail had disappeared.

Damian poured himself a drink.

He had barely taken a sip when someone knocked.

Thomas Keene entered.

Damian stared at him.

“You look nervous.”

“I’m a lawyer.”

“Nervous is expensive.”

Thomas placed a folder on the table.

“The injunction hearing is tomorrow.”

“And?”

“We have enough for temporary relief.”

Damian smiled for the first time in hours.

“How much?”

“Potentially enough to freeze Elena’s control while the court reviews marital ownership.”

“Potentially?”

Thomas avoided his eyes.

Damian stepped closer.

“Look at me.”

Thomas did.

“Can we stop her?”

“For a few days.”

Damian’s smile vanished.

“I don’t need a few days.”

Thomas swallowed.

“Elias said a few days would be enough.”

Damian went still.

“You weren’t supposed to say his name.”

Thomas realized the mistake too late.

Damian grabbed the folder.

“What exactly did Elias tell you?”

“Nothing.”

“Don’t insult me.”

Thomas took a step back.

“He said Elena would panic if the ownership history became public.”

“Why?”

“He didn’t say.”

Damian stared toward the windows.

He had first learned about the Founders Covenant six months earlier.

Not from Elena.

From Elias.

The chairman had invited him to dinner and told him something Damian could barely believe.

Elena’s father had never intended one person to control Voss Global forever.

There was a mechanism inside the original founding documents.

A mechanism that could strip Elena’s voting authority if certain conditions were triggered.

All Elias needed was legal access to the company archive.

Damian had provided the lawsuit.

Elias would provide the rest.

That had been the deal.

Damian turned back.

“Call him.”

Thomas hesitated.

“Now.”

The lawyer dialed.

No answer.

Again.

Nothing.

Damian’s eyes narrowed.

“He’s cutting me out.”

Thomas said nothing.

Damian looked at the folder.

For the first time, he understood.

May you like

The lawsuit had never been about getting his company back.

He was only the key Elias needed to open Elena’s vault.
