Chapter 7 – Andrew's Public Lie

Chapter 7 – Andrew's Public Lie

By eight o'clock that evening, every major news network had switched to live coverage.

Satellite trucks surrounded Whitmore Holdings.

Reporters crowded behind metal barricades.

Millions of viewers tuned in.

No one knew what Andrew Whitmore was about to say.

Inside the company auditorium, Andrew stood behind a polished podium.

The flash of hundreds of cameras lit up the room.

For a brief moment, he closed his eyes.

He remembered Mariana's words.

"Remember every word you said."

He pushed the memory away.

This wasn't the time for regret.

It was survival.

He adjusted the microphone.

"Ladies and gentlemen..."

"I appreciate your patience during this difficult time."

The room fell silent.

"I know there has been a great deal of speculation about recent events."

He paused.

"Unfortunately..."

"My wife has chosen to use her family's wealth to take control of the company we built together."

Several reporters exchanged glances.

Andrew continued.

"I loved my wife."

"I trusted her."

"But I never imagined she would weaponize her family's influence against our employees, our shareholders, and thousands of hardworking families."

The statement spread instantly across social media.

Some viewers sympathized.

Others were skeptical.

Watching from her office, Mariana remained expressionless.

Her assistant looked furious.

"He's lying."

Mariana simply replied,

"No."

The assistant looked confused.

"He believes what he's saying."

Andrew continued speaking.

"I don't deny that Mariana helped the company."

"She supported me."

"She offered advice."

"But no one person built Whitmore Holdings."

"It was a team effort."

He lowered his head slightly.

"I only ask that this matter remain a private family dispute."

One reporter immediately raised her hand.

"Mr. Whitmore!"

"Did you physically assault your wife on the night she left?"

Andrew froze.

The room became silent.

His media advisor had warned him that question might come.

He forced a smile.

"I would never intentionally hurt my wife."

"Then are you denying the allegation?"

Andrew hesitated.

"It was..."

"...a heated argument."

Before he could continue, another reporter stood.

"Mr. Whitmore, several servants have anonymously confirmed they witnessed you striking Mrs. Escalante twice."

Andrew's face tightened.

"I won't comment on anonymous accusations."

Another voice interrupted.

"Is it true that you demanded she kneel and confess to stealing your mother's necklace?"

Andrew looked toward his legal team.

His attorney subtly shook his head.

"No further comment."

The atmosphere shifted.

The questions were no longer about business.

They were about character.

At Escalante Global Holdings...

Every executive watched the broadcast.

Michael Carter folded his arms.

"He thinks this will save him."

Alejandro quietly sipped his coffee.

"No."

"He isn't speaking to the media."

"He's speaking to himself."

Mariana remained focused on the screen.

She knew Andrew well enough to recognize what was happening.

He wasn't lying because he enjoyed it.

He was lying because accepting the truth would destroy him.

Back at the press conference, Andrew prepared to leave.

Then one final reporter stood.

"Mr. Whitmore."

"If everything you've said is true..."

"Would you allow Mrs. Escalante to release the original financial agreements?"

The room became silent again.

Andrew blinked.

"What?"

"The contracts."

"The guarantees."

"The board records."

"If they support your version..."

"Surely you have nothing to hide."

Andrew's heartbeat accelerated.

He had never seen those documents.

He didn't know what they contained.

His attorney quickly stepped between Andrew and the microphones.

"The press conference is over."

Questions erupted from every direction.

"Did Mariana really save the company?"

"Did you know who she was before marrying her?"

"Did you strike your wife?"

"Who actually owns Whitmore Holdings?"

Security escorted Andrew out through a private exit.

But the damage had already been done.

An hour later...

Every major network replayed one short clip.

The reporter asking about the assault.

Andrew refusing to answer.

Public opinion shifted once again.

The hashtag #JusticeForMariana climbed to the top of every trending platform.

Another hashtag followed.

#WhoBuiltWhitmore

Meanwhile...

Mariana's legal team gathered in her office.

One attorney placed several documents on the table.

"We can destroy his statement."

"One press conference."

"One lawsuit."

"One release of the contracts."

Another attorney nodded.

"The evidence is overwhelming."

Mariana looked at the files.

Then quietly closed them.

"No."

The room fell silent.

Her chief attorney frowned.

"Chairwoman..."

"Why wait?"

She stood and walked toward the window.

"Because the truth doesn't need to shout."

She looked down at the city below.

"It only needs the right moment."

Across town...

Brenda sat in her apartment watching the news replay.

Her anxiety grew with every passing minute.

Andrew hadn't looked confident.

He had looked desperate.

Her phone rang.

It was an unknown number.

She answered cautiously.

"Hello?"

A woman's calm voice replied.

"Miss Brenda Collins?"

"Yes."

"My name is Evelyn Ross."

"I'm a senior investigator representing the insurance consortium that financed Whitmore Holdings."

Brenda frowned.

"What does that have to do with me?"

"We'd like to ask you a few questions."

"About what?"

"Your relationship with Mr. Andrew Whitmore."

Brenda's face lost its color.

"I..."

"I don't understand."

"You've been identified in several financial records."

"We believe company resources may have been used for personal expenses."

Brenda's hand began to shake.

"I didn't know anything."

"We're not accusing you."

"Not yet."

"But we'd appreciate your cooperation."

The call ended.

Brenda stared at the silent phone.

For the first time...

She realized she wasn't just Andrew's mistress anymore.

She might become part of the investigation.

Late that night...

Andrew sat alone in his study.

The mansion was eerily quiet.

His phone vibrated.

A message from an unknown sender.

No text.

Only a video file.

He pressed play.

The footage came from one of the mansion's security cameras.

The timestamp showed the night Mariana left.

Andrew watched himself.

He saw the first slap.

Then the second.

He heard his own voice.

"Kneel."

"Admit you stole the necklace."

"Leave this house before I have you arrested."

Every word echoed through the room.

His breathing became uneven.

Someone had the recording.

Someone had sent it to him.

Then another message appeared beneath the video.

This is only a copy.

The original will be released when the time is right.

Andrew stared at the screen in horror.

His hands trembled so violently that the phone slipped from his grasp and crashed onto the hardwood floor.

For the first time since everything began...

He understood that losing the company might not be his greatest fear.

If that video became public...

He wouldn't just lose his fortune.

May you like

He would lose his name.
