Chapter 14 - Vivian’s Real Secret

Vivian stared at Elena for a long time.

“Because I wouldn’t let Rafael kill you.”

Alejandro stepped closer.

“Explain.”

Vivian looked toward the waiting federal vehicles.

“Not here.”

They returned to a secure government building.

Inside a private room, Vivian finally told the truth.

The original plan had not been to keep Elena alive for years.

After Elena gave birth and signed temporary trust documents, Rafael intended to stage her death.

A boating accident.

No body recovered.

Exactly like Rafael’s own fake death.

“But the trust required Elena to appear alive every four years.”

Alejandro said.

Vivian nodded.

“Crane discovered that later.”

“So until then, Rafael planned to kill her.”

Elena stared at Vivian.

“And you stopped him?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Vivian looked at her hands.

“Because I hated you before I knew you.”

“I spent my whole life looking at photographs of you.”

“Your schools.”

“Your vacations.”

“Your wedding.”

“Everything I believed should have belonged to me.”

“But then I met you.”

Elena remained silent.

Vivian continued.

“You were unconscious when they brought you to the clinic.”

“When you woke up, you asked whether the nurses had eaten.”

“You thanked people.”

“You talked about helping children.”

“And I realized I had built my hatred around someone who didn’t even know I existed.”

Elena’s eyes filled with tears.

“That didn’t stop you from helping them.”

“No.”

Vivian did not defend herself.

“I was angry.”

“Jealous.”

“Cowardly.”

“I helped destroy your life.”

Then she revealed something else.

When the twins were born, Mateo struggled to breathe.

Rafael ordered the medical team not to transfer him to a hospital because exposure was too risky.

Vivian secretly arranged a neonatal specialist.

She saved Mateo’s life.

Elena covered her mouth.

“I never knew.”

Vivian nodded.

“That was when Rafael realized I was becoming a liability.”

Alejandro understood why Vivian had copied evidence.

She had been preparing to escape for years.

Suddenly an agent entered.

“We have a problem.”

He placed a tablet on the table.

Security footage showed Rafael entering Atlantic Crown Bank earlier that morning using a forged federal credential.

“What did he take?”

The agent answered.

“Nothing.”

“He left something.”

The footage showed Rafael placing a package inside a locker.

Bomb squad recovered it.

Inside was a phone.

Only one video existed.

Alejandro pressed play.

Sofia and Mateo appeared on screen.

Sleeping.

The timestamp was from fifteen minutes ago.
