Chapter 10 - TERESA'S LAST BARGAIN
Teresa entered with the baby wrapped against her chest.
Camila nearly ran to him, but Teresa raised a small pistol.
“One step and he loses his mother twice,” she said.
Julián stood between them. “Give me my son.”
Teresa's hands shook. “Rodrigo has become uncontrollable. He planned to kill all of us tonight and leave the country.”
“You created him,” Camila said.
Teresa flinched. “I protected him. There is a difference.”
“No,” Julián replied. “There isn't.”
She offered a bargain: safe passage and access to hidden funds in exchange for Mateo and evidence against Rodrigo.
Julián kept her talking while Camila moved closer.
“Who ordered the attack on Camila?” he asked.
Teresa looked down. “Rodrigo. I wanted her frightened, not dead.”
“And Father?”
Tears finally appeared in Teresa's eyes. “Your father was going to send Rodrigo to prison. I changed one bottle. I told myself I was saving my son.”
Camila reached for Mateo.
A red dot appeared on Teresa's forehead.
Julián shouted, “Down!”
The shot missed and struck the wall.
Rodrigo's men stormed the safe house.
Camila grabbed the baby while Julián pulled Teresa behind a concrete counter. The room filled with shattered glass and smoke.
They escaped through a service tunnel, but at the exit Teresa stopped.
“I know where Rodrigo is going,” she said. “The old fermentation tunnels beneath the vineyard.”

“And he has enough explosives to bury the whole estate.”
