Chapter 6 - THE PRICE OF A SON

Rodrigo ordered Julián to come alone to an unfinished hotel outside Querétaro. He demanded the controlling shares, the power of attorney, and the blue ledger.

Ana Lucía begged him not to go.

“He'll kill you once he has the documents.”

“He has my son.”

Julián copied the ledger, hid a tracking chip inside the folder, and drove through a storm.

Rodrigo waited on the twelfth floor beside a portable crib. The baby inside wore a white cap and moved one tiny hand beneath the blanket.

Julián stopped breathing.

“My son.”

Rodrigo smiled. “Maybe.”

“Let me hold him.”

“Sign first.”

The contract transferred every Armenta asset to Rodrigo and released him from all future claims. Julián signed with a pen containing invisible tracking ink.

Rodrigo checked the pages and laughed. “You always were easy to control.”

Julián stepped toward the crib.

Rodrigo kicked it backward.

The crib rolled toward an open elevator shaft.

Julián lunged and caught it inches from the edge. When he looked up, Rodrigo was pointing a gun at him.

“You should have stayed in Monterrey,” Rodrigo said.

Police sirens rose outside.

Rodrigo's smile vanished.

Julián had sent Ana Lucía the live location before entering.

But the officers who came through the stairwell did not aim at Rodrigo.

They aimed at Julián.

Their captain said, “Mr. Armenta, you're under arrest for the murder of your wife.”
