Chapter 1: The Man at the Door

The front door opened so quietly that, at first, no one moved.

Then Santiago Rivas saw the man standing in the entrance.

Tall. Silver-haired. Dressed in a black suit without a single wrinkle. His face was calm, but his eyes carried the kind of power that made wealthy men lower their voices.

“Elena,” the man said.

Elena froze.

Her hands tightened around her pregnant belly. For two years, she had hidden from this moment. She had told herself she could survive Santiago alone. She had told herself her father’s world was too dangerous, too controlling, too full of shadows.

But now, standing barefoot on the marble floor, trembling and exhausted, she whispered the word Santiago had never heard from her mouth.

“Papa.”

Santiago’s smile vanished.

His mother, Carmen Rivas, stiffened on the staircase.

The man stepped inside.

“I came for my daughter,” Alejandro Castillo said. “And my grandson.”
