Chapter 9: Santiago Comes Begging
One week before the divorce hearing, Santiago appeared outside the Castillo estate.
Rain soaked his suit.
He looked smaller than Elena remembered.
“Elena!” he shouted through the gate. “Please. Let me explain.”
She watched from the balcony.
For a moment, the old fear returned.
Then her son moved inside her belly.
Elena placed both hands over him.
Alejandro appeared beside her. “You don’t have to face him.”
“I know,” she said.
Then she went downstairs.
At the gate, Santiago tried to smile.
“I made mistakes,” he said. “But we are family.”
Elena looked at him through the iron bars.
“No, Santiago. Family protects. You possessed.”
His face twisted. “You’ll regret this.”
She did not flinch.
