Chapter 7: The Mistress Who Went Too Far

Chapter 7: The Mistress Who Went Too Far

The boardroom remained silent.

No one spoke.

No one moved.

The security footage had changed everything.

Marcus stared at the frozen image on the screen.

Isabella Hart stood before the presidential suite's private safe, smiling as she slipped another velvet jewelry box into her suitcase.

His voice was barely audible.

"...She said she was packing her things."

Daniel Reeves answered quietly.

"She was."

He paused.

"Just not her own."

Charles Sterling slowly stood.

For the first time that morning, there was visible anger in his face.

Not loud anger.

Not explosive.

The kind that frightened people far more.

He looked at the General Counsel.

"How many items were stored in that safe?"

The lawyer opened a file.

"The preliminary inventory lists twenty-three pieces."

Charles nodded.

"And?"

"Three family heirlooms."

"Two original property deeds."

"One trust portfolio."

"Several confidential ownership agreements."

The room fell silent again.

Marcus frowned.

"Ownership agreements?"

The lawyer looked directly at him.

"Documents proving the Sterling family's controlling interest."

Marcus's heart skipped a beat.

"If those disappear..."

The lawyer finished the sentence for him.

"...someone could attempt fraud."

Isabella remained remarkably calm.

She folded her hands on the table.

"Daniel."

"Yes, Mrs. Sterling."

"Has she left the hotel?"

"No."

"Why not?"

"The front desk delayed her checkout."

Marcus looked confused.

"Delayed?"

Daniel nodded.

"After Executive Authority transferred overnight..."

"...we quietly instructed the staff not to let any luggage leave the property without inspection."

Marcus slowly turned toward Daniel.

"You knew."

"I suspected."

"When?"

Daniel hesitated.

"The moment I saw Mrs. Hart wearing your mother's sapphire brooch."

He looked at Isabella.

"I knew Mrs. Hart could never have been given permission."

Charles allowed himself a faint smile.

"Good."

Daniel lowered his head.

"I simply did my job."

Charles corrected him.

"No."

"You protected my daughter's family."

The Chairman looked toward Isabella.

"The Board awaits your decision."

She remained thoughtful.

"I don't want a public scene."

Charles raised an eyebrow.

"Even now?"

She nodded.

"There are hundreds of guests in that hotel."

"Thousands of employees."

"I won't let them suffer because of Marcus's mistakes."

One elderly director smiled.

"That's why you're ready to lead."

Meanwhile...

At the Grand Crescent Hotel...

Isabella Hart stood in front of the mirror inside the Presidential Suite.

Designer suit.

Diamond earrings.

Perfect makeup.

She admired herself.

The sapphire brooch sparkled against her cream-colored jacket.

She smiled.

"This suits me much better."

She zipped the final suitcase closed.

Inside were documents she barely understood.

Jewelry worth millions.

Rare watches.

Family keepsakes.

She believed they were simply expensive possessions.

She had no idea some were legally irreplaceable.

Her phone rang.

"Marcus?"

She answered immediately.

"Everything's almost packed."

No answer.

"Marcus?"

Still silence.

Finally...

A strange voice spoke.

"Mrs. Hart?"

She frowned.

"Who is this?"

"Front Desk Manager Emily Lawson."

"What is it?"

"We're calling regarding your checkout."

"I'm leaving now."

"I'm afraid there's a small issue."

"What issue?"

"We'll explain when you arrive in the lobby."

Isabella rolled her eyes.

"Fine."

She hung up.

Twenty minutes later...

The elevator doors opened into the magnificent marble lobby.

Bellmen waited beside polished brass luggage carts.

Guests crossed the lobby carrying designer shopping bags.

Business executives checked out after the gala.

Everything looked normal.

Until Isabella reached the revolving doors.

"Excuse me, ma'am."

A security officer stepped forward politely.

"Your luggage requires routine inspection."

She laughed.

"Do you know who I am?"

The officer smiled professionally.

"I do."

"And?"

"I'm following instructions."

"Marcus Ashford approved me staying here."

"I'm aware."

She crossed her arms.

"So move."

"I'm afraid I can't."

The lobby slowly became quieter.

Several guests paused to watch.

Isabella noticed.

Her smile disappeared.

"I demand to speak with the General Manager."

The manager approached within seconds.

"Good morning, Mrs. Hart."

"Tell your people to let me leave."

"I'm sorry."

"I cannot."

Her expression darkened.

"Are you insane?"

"No."

"I'm following orders from ownership."

The word caught her attention.

"Ownership?"

"Yes."

She laughed dismissively.

"Marcus owns this hotel."

The manager looked genuinely uncomfortable.

"No..."

"He doesn't."

At headquarters...

Marcus watched another live security feed.

The lobby cameras.

Every word.

Every reaction.

He saw Isabella Hart shouting at employees.

Threatening lawsuits.

Claiming authority she didn't possess.

His stomach tightened.

"I did this."

Charles looked at him.

"Yes."

"You taught her she could treat people that way."

Marcus lowered his head.

He couldn't deny it.

Back in the hotel lobby...

Security Supervisor Lewis approached carrying a small black evidence case.

"Mrs. Hart."

"What now?"

"We've received authorization to inspect the luggage."

"You don't have a warrant."

"We don't need one."

"This is private property."

She laughed.

"Marcus owns—"

Lewis interrupted gently.

"No."

"Mrs. Sterling does."

The sentence hit her like ice water.

"What?"

Before she could react...

The General Manager handed her a document.

NOTICE OF PROPERTY PROTECTION

Issued by:

Sterling Family Office

She scanned it quickly.

Then laughed.

"This is fake."

Another voice answered from behind.

"No."

"It isn't."

The lobby fell silent.

Everyone turned.

The revolving doors slowly opened.

Outside...

A black Rolls-Royce had just arrived.

The driver opened the rear door.

First stepped Charles Sterling.

Then...

Isabella.

Elegant in an ivory suit.

Walking calmly through the lobby she had designed years earlier.

Employees instinctively straightened.

One by one...

Bellmen lowered their heads.

Housekeepers smiled warmly.

Front desk staff stood a little taller.

Without anyone giving an order...

The entire lobby became still.

Not out of fear.

Out of respect.

Isabella Hart looked from the arriving woman...

...to the employees surrounding her.

Confusion filled her face.

Then she noticed something impossible.

The General Manager walked directly past her.

Stopped in front of Isabella Sterling.

And said clearly enough for everyone to hear,

"Welcome home, Mrs. Sterling."

Then every employee in the lobby echoed the same words.

"Welcome home, Mrs. Sterling."

The sound rolled through the marble lobby like thunder.

Marcus watched the scene unfold on the live security feed.

For the first time in eleven years...

He saw the truth that had always been there.

The staff had never respected Isabella because she was the CEO's wife.

They respected her because long before Marcus ever became famous...

May you like

She had quietly become the heart of every hotel they called home.
