PART 2 — The Security Team Arrived Before I Did

PART 2 — The Security Team Arrived Before I Did
The bus had barely traveled another three blocks before my phone rang again.
"Miss Robertson," a calm male voice said. "This is Daniel Cross, Director of Executive Security. Your father has already mobilized the team. We have your GPS location."
I blinked.
"Dad... already sent security?"
"Yes, ma'am."
"Estimated arrival: three minutes."
I looked around the nearly empty bus.
An elderly woman sitting across from me smiled kindly at Toby.
"You've got a beautiful little boy."
"Thank you," I whispered.
She hesitated before asking, "Are you all right, dear?"
I forced a smile.
"I will be."
Exactly three minutes later, the bus pulled into the next stop.
Outside waited three black SUVs.
Not ordinary SUVs.
Every vehicle carried diplomatic-grade security plates.
Six men in dark suits stepped out simultaneously.
The bus driver looked confused.
Passengers turned toward the windows.
The lead guard walked aboard.
He scanned the passengers before stopping in front of me.
"Miss Hailey Robertson?"
I nodded.
He lowered his head respectfully.
"Your father sent us."
The entire bus fell silent.
Even the driver stared.
The guard continued.
"May I carry your son?"
"No," I answered softly.
"I'll hold Toby."
"Of course."
He immediately picked up my hospital bag instead.
Another guard offered his arm.
"Please allow us to assist you."
Standing hurt more than I wanted to admit.
As I slowly stepped off the bus, every member of the security team formed a protective circle around me.
The elderly woman gasped.
"My goodness..."
The bus driver smiled.
"I knew someone like you shouldn't have been riding my bus today."
I laughed quietly.
"Actually...
I needed this ride."
He nodded without understanding.
But I did.
Sometimes the final humiliation becomes the first step toward freedom.
Instead of driving toward my apartment, Daniel spoke through the front seat.
"Your father requested that we take you somewhere safe."
"Where?"
"The Robertson Estate."
I stared out the window.
"I haven't been home in almost four years."
"We know."
The security chief hesitated.
"He never stopped preparing your room."
Tears blurred my vision.
Across town...
Jasper was enjoying lobster and champagne with his family.
Priscilla laughed while scrolling through social media.
"You know what's funny?"
"What?"
"I bet Hailey is still waiting for a bus."
Everyone laughed.
Even Jasper.
His mother Gillian sipped her wine.
"Maybe motherhood will finally teach her some humility."
Jasper shrugged.
"She'll get over it."
"She always does."
His phone vibrated.
Unknown number.
He ignored it.
Then it rang again.
And again.
Finally he answered.
"What?"
"This is Robertson Automotive."
"We're calling regarding Vehicle Registration Number—"
"I'm eating."
"Call later."
The woman continued politely.
"Sir, we need to inform you the Robertson Estate has officially revoked authorization for your use of the black Range Rover."
He frowned.
"What?"
"Our recovery department has been instructed to collect the vehicle immediately."
He laughed.
"Collect my SUV?"
"Sir..."
"Our records indicate the vehicle has never belonged to you."
"It is registered solely to Miss Hailey Robertson."
Jasper's smile disappeared.
"There has to be some mistake."
"There is no mistake."
"The vehicle was temporarily insured under your driving authorization."
"That authorization has now been canceled."
Priscilla leaned closer.
"What happened?"
Jasper covered the phone.
"Some idiot from insurance."
Meanwhile...
The Robertson Estate gates slowly opened.
I hadn't seen the property since my wedding.
Two stone lions guarded the entrance.
Beyond them stretched perfectly manicured gardens that covered nearly forty acres.
The mansion looked exactly as I remembered.
Grand.
Elegant.
Home.
The front doors opened before our SUVs stopped.
My father walked outside.
Finnley Robertson.
Chairman of Robertson Global Corporation.
One of the wealthiest businessmen in North America.
Yet at that moment...
He looked nothing like a billionaire.
He looked like a grandfather desperate to meet his grandson.
He reached my door before anyone else.
When he saw me struggling to stand...
His expression changed.
"Hailey..."
He gently steadied me.
"What did he do to you?"
"I'm okay."
"No."
His eyes filled with anger.
"You're pretending."
Then he noticed the hospital wristband still around my arm.
His hands trembled.
"He sent you home like this?"
I couldn't answer.
Instead...
I placed Toby into his arms.
For several seconds...
My father simply stared at his grandson.
The toughest man I had ever known quietly began to cry.
"He looks like your mother."
I smiled.
"I think so too."
He kissed Toby's forehead.
Then looked back at me.
"From this moment on...
No one will ever make either of you feel unwanted again."
Inside the estate, a private medical team was already waiting.
A female doctor examined my incision.
Her expression hardened.
"Who discharged her without family assistance?"
"The hospital assumed her husband was taking her home," Daniel answered.
The doctor shook her head.
"She should never have climbed onto a city bus."
"She has reopened part of her incision."
Dad closed his eyes.
For several long seconds...
No one spoke.
Finally he asked one question.
"Will my daughter recover?"
"Yes."
"But only if she rests."
Across town...
Lunch ended.
Jasper walked toward the parking valet.
The attendant looked uncomfortable.
"Sir..."
"What?"
"Someone is waiting by your vehicle."
Two men in tailored black suits stood beside the SUV.
One held a clipboard.
The other held the keys.
"I'm Jasper Lawson."
The older man smiled politely.
"We know."
"My name is Michael Hayes."
"Robertson Executive Asset Recovery."
Jasper frowned.
"What is this?"
"The vehicle is being repossessed."
Priscilla burst into laughter.
"Very funny."
"No."
Michael handed him official paperwork.
"This vehicle remains the legal property of Miss Hailey Robertson."
"Your driving privileges have been revoked."
Gillian stepped forward.
"My son owns that car!"
Michael calmly replied,
"Actually...
he never did."
Jasper grabbed the paperwork.
"This is ridiculous."
"I'll call my wife."
"You may."
Michael answered.
"But I don't believe she'll answer."
He dialed.
Straight to voicemail.
Again.
Voicemail.
Again.
Voicemail.
His confidence began to crack.
Something felt...
wrong.
Very wrong.
Back at the estate, I finally held my son in the quiet nursery my mother had once designed for me.
Soft afternoon light spilled through the windows.
My father knocked gently before entering.
"I spoke with our legal team."
I looked up.
"You don't have to do anything today."
"But when you're ready...
they're prepared."
"For what?"
He placed a thick folder on the table beside me.
Divorce papers.
Financial investigations.
Property records.
Corporate contracts.
Every document Jasper had ever signed.
My father spoke quietly.
"I didn't interfere in your marriage because you asked me not to."
"But now..."
His eyes turned cold.
"I'm going to show Jasper exactly what happens when someone mistakes kindness for weakness."
He slid one final document toward me.
I looked down.
My heart skipped a beat.
Across the top, in bold letters, were the words:
LAWSON TECHNOLOGIES — PRIMARY INVESTMENT AGREEMENT
And underneath...
One sentence changed everything.
Majority funding provided through Robertson Global Strategic Ventures.
I slowly looked back at my father.
"Dad..."
"You invested in Jasper's company?"
He nodded once.
"He thought venture capital made him successful."
A faint, humorless smile crossed his face.
"He never realized...
every dollar that built his empire passed through my hands first."
Outside the nursery window, another black SUV rolled through the estate gates.
The chief legal counsel had arrived.
And with him...
May you like
the first step in dismantling everything Jasper believed he owned.
