PART 6 — The Anonymous Message Revealed a Secret No One Expected
I read the message three more times.
If you want to protect your son... don't ignore this.
A chill ran down my spine.
This wasn't someone asking for money.
It wasn't a reporter looking for gossip.
Whoever sent it knew two things:
My son's existence.
And Jasper's business.
I immediately handed my phone to Daniel.
"Can you trace it?"
He looked at the number for only a second.
"It was sent through an encrypted relay."
"So... no?"
He nodded.
"Not immediately."
"But whoever sent this wanted to stay invisible."
Within minutes, my father joined us in his private study.
He read both messages carefully.
Then looked at me.
"I don't like coincidences."
"Neither do I."
He pressed the intercom.
"Daniel."
"Yes, sir?"
"I want a full background investigation on every executive who has worked with Jasper during the past five years."
"And increase security around Hailey and Toby."
Daniel nodded.
"It starts now."
The next morning...
Jasper woke up in a hotel room.
Not because he wanted to.
Because he had nowhere else to go.
The apartment he once called home had been leased through the company.
The board canceled his executive housing privileges the same afternoon he was removed as CEO.
His corporate credit cards had been frozen.
His company vehicle was gone.
His assistant no longer answered his calls.
He sat on the edge of the bed staring at his phone.
Thirty-seven missed calls.
Almost all from creditors.
Only one name made him hesitate.
Ethan Brooks.
His business partner.
Jasper called back immediately.
"Ethan."
"We need to meet."
An hour later, they sat in a quiet corner of a private coffee shop.
Ethan looked exhausted.
"You've got reporters outside."
"I know."
Jasper leaned forward.
"You've always been with me."
"Tell me honestly."
"Can we save the company?"
Ethan didn't answer.
Instead, he slid a thin envelope across the table.
"What is this?"
"My resignation."
Jasper stared at him.
"What?"
"I resigned this morning."
"You can't leave now."
"I have to."
"Why?"
Ethan took a deep breath.
"Because I can't lie anymore."
Jasper frowned.
"What are you talking about?"
Ethan lowered his voice.
"Do you remember the first investor meeting three years ago?"
"Of course."
"You thought those venture capital firms believed in your presentation."
"They did."
Ethan shook his head.
"No."
"They believed in Hailey."
Jasper laughed bitterly.
"Not this again."
"I'm serious."
"I was there."
"Every investor asked the same question before signing."
He paused.
"'Is Miss Robertson comfortable with this investment?'"
Jasper's expression slowly changed.
"What?"
"I didn't understand it back then."
"I thought maybe her father knew someone."
"But later..."
"I found out exactly who Finnley Robertson was."
Jasper's coffee cup slipped from his hand.
It shattered on the floor.
"You knew?"
"For almost two years."
"And you never told me?"
"I signed a confidentiality agreement."
"But that's not why I stayed quiet."
"Then why?"
Ethan looked him directly in the eyes.
"Because I wanted to see whether you loved your wife..."
"...or her last name."
Silence.
"You failed."
Back at the Robertson Estate...
Daniel entered my father's office carrying another file.
"We found something."
Dad looked up.
"What is it?"
"A series of offshore accounts."
"They're connected to Lawson Technologies."
"Were they opened by Jasper?"
Daniel hesitated.
"No."
"They were opened by someone else."
"Who?"
Daniel placed a photograph on the desk.
A middle-aged man wearing an expensive tailored suit.
His name beneath the picture:
Victor Kane
Lawson Technologies' Chief Financial Officer.
Dad narrowed his eyes.
"I've met him."
Daniel nodded.
"He has been transferring company funds overseas for nearly eighteen months."
I frowned.
"Does Jasper know?"
"We're not sure."
That afternoon, another surprise arrived.
The estate's receptionist called Daniel.
"There's a visitor."
"Who?"
"Ethan Brooks."
"He says he has information for Miss Robertson."
Dad looked at me.
"Your decision."
I nodded slowly.
"Let him in."
Ethan entered carrying a leather briefcase.
He looked uncomfortable.
"Mrs... Miss Robertson."
"You can call me Hailey."
He gave a small smile.
"I owe you an apology."
"For what?"
"I knew Jasper had changed."
"I should have spoken sooner."
He placed the briefcase on the table.
Inside were dozens of folders.
Financial statements.
Emails.
Signed contracts.
"This is everything I copied before resigning."
Dad opened one file.
His expression darkened immediately.
"What is it?" I asked.
He turned the document toward me.
A contract.
Signed by Victor Kane.
And another signature...
Jasper Lawson.
The title read:
Transfer of Intellectual Property Rights
My heart skipped.
"What does this mean?"
Ethan answered quietly.
"It means someone has been selling pieces of Lawson Technologies to foreign shell companies."
I looked at Jasper's signature.
"Did he know?"
Ethan sighed.
"I honestly don't know."
"He signed whatever Victor put in front of him."
Before anyone could speak again, Daniel's phone rang.
He answered.
His face changed instantly.
"What happened?"
He listened for several seconds.
Then looked at my father.
"Sir..."
"The FBI just contacted us."
"They're requesting an emergency meeting."
Dad slowly stood.
"The FBI?"
Daniel nodded.
"They've opened a criminal investigation into Lawson Technologies."
The room fell silent.
If the FBI was involved...
This was no longer just a divorce.
It had become something much bigger.
And somewhere in the middle of it all...
Jasper was about to learn that losing his company had only been the beginning.
