PART 4 — He Walked Into the Boardroom as CEO… and Walked Out With Nothing

PART 4 — He Walked Into the Boardroom as CEO… and Walked Out With Nothing
The next morning, Jasper arrived at Lawson Technologies before sunrise.
He barely slept.
Every word Finnley Robertson had spoken echoed in his mind.
"By this time tomorrow... you may no longer be CEO."
He refused to believe it.
There had to be a legal loophole.
A misunderstanding.
Some technicality that would restore everything.
As the elevator doors opened onto the executive floor, he immediately sensed something was different.
Employees who normally greeted him with cheerful smiles suddenly fell silent.
Some avoided eye contact altogether.
Others whispered after he passed.
His executive assistant, Melissa, stood outside his office clutching a folder.
Her eyes were red from crying.
"Good morning, Mr. Lawson."
"What's going on?" Jasper demanded.
She hesitated.
"The board meeting has been moved up."
"Everyone is already inside."
The conference room doors opened.
Every seat was occupied.
The company's directors.
Major investors.
Outside legal counsel.
Financial auditors.
At the head of the table sat Robert Chen.
To his right sat Margaret Ellis.
To his left...
An empty chair.
Robert looked up calmly.
"Good morning, Jasper."
Jasper remained standing.
"I'm still the CEO."
Robert nodded.
"For the next few minutes."
Margaret placed a thick binder in front of every board member.
"The meeting will now begin."
She activated the projector.
A slide appeared.
AGENDA
Vote of No Confidence in CEO Jasper Lawson.
Financial Misconduct Review.
Executive Leadership Appointment.
Jasper laughed bitterly.
"This is ridiculous."
"You can't remove the founder."
Robert folded his hands.
"We can."
"And today, we will."
Margaret spoke first.
"Our investigation identified multiple violations of executive policy."
Another slide appeared.
Corporate Expenses
Luxury vacations.
Designer watches.
Private club memberships.
Five-star hotels.
Each one charged to company accounts.
Jasper frowned.
"Those were approved."
"Were they?"
Margaret clicked again.
Approval signatures appeared on the screen.
Every signature belonged to Jasper.
He had approved his own reimbursements.
Then came the second report.
Employment Violations
Three senior engineers had resigned after repeated public humiliation.
A female marketing director had filed a confidential harassment complaint.
Two executives testified that Jasper routinely threatened employees who questioned him.
One by one...
Former colleagues entered the room.
Each gave calm, detailed testimony.
Not one exaggerated.
They didn't need to.
The truth was enough.
Jasper looked around desperately.
"Why didn't anyone tell me?"
An older board member finally answered.
"We tried."
"You fired anyone who disagreed with you."
Silence filled the room.
Margaret wasn't finished.
"The final matter concerns fiduciary responsibility."
She displayed another document.
Jasper immediately recognized it.
His stomach tightened.
The company jet.
He had purchased it six months earlier.
The board had rejected the proposal.
He bought it anyway.
Using a subsidiary account.
Robert looked directly at him.
"You believed no one would notice."
"You were wrong."
The vote began.
"All in favor of removing Jasper Lawson as Chief Executive Officer."
One hand rose.
Then another.
Then another.
Twelve.
Thirteen.
Fourteen.
Every single voting member.
Robert looked at Jasper.
"Opposed?"
Only one hand remained raised.
His own.
Margaret quietly recorded the result.
"The motion passes unanimously."
Just like that...
The title he'd spent years bragging about disappeared.
"Effective immediately," Robert announced, "Mr. Jasper Lawson is relieved of all executive authority."
Security officers entered the room.
Not police.
Corporate security.
Professional.
Respectful.
One stepped forward.
"Mr. Lawson."
"We'll escort you to collect your personal belongings."
Jasper stared in disbelief.
"You can't escort me out of my own company."
Robert answered softly.
"It isn't your company."
"It never truly was."
Employees lined the hallways as Jasper carried a single cardboard box.
The same man who once walked these halls surrounded by assistants now carried family photos and office supplies by himself.
Some employees watched silently.
Others turned away.
No one applauded.
No one celebrated.
But no one defended him either.
His own actions had written this ending.
Outside the building, reporters had already gathered.
News spread faster than anyone expected.
"Mr. Lawson!"
"Were you fired?"
"Is Robertson Global taking over?"
"Did your wife file for divorce?"
Flashbulbs exploded around him.
He covered his face and pushed through the crowd.
For the first time in years...
He had nowhere to go.
Across town, I sat in my father's garden feeding Toby beneath an old oak tree.
The afternoon breeze carried the scent of roses.
Dad walked over holding a tablet.
"It's official."
He handed it to me.
Every major business publication carried the same headline.
LAWSON TECHNOLOGIES REMOVES FOUNDER AS CEO. ROBERTSON GLOBAL ASSUMES EXECUTIVE CONTROL.
I read quietly.
There was no joy.
Only relief.
Dad sat beside me.
"You aren't smiling."
"I don't want revenge anymore."
He looked at me carefully.
"What do you want?"
I kissed Toby's forehead.
"Peace."
That evening my attorney arrived with another folder.
"The divorce petition has been filed."
"The court granted temporary custody in your favor."
I nodded.
"What about visitation?"
"He may request supervised visits after the initial hearing."
I looked down at my son.
"He deserves to know his father."
The attorney smiled gently.
"And his father deserves the opportunity to become worthy of that privilege."
As the meeting ended, Daniel entered the room.
"Miss Robertson."
"We have a situation."
"What happened?"
"A woman is at the front gate."
"She refuses to leave."
"Who is it?"
Daniel paused before answering.
"It's Jasper's mother."
"Gillian says..."
"...she isn't here to apologize."
"She's here to make demands."
I slowly stood.
After everything that had already happened...
May you like
I had a feeling the hardest confrontation was still waiting beyond those gates.
