PART 13 — The Truth About My Mother Changed Everything I Believed

PART 13 — The Truth About My Mother Changed Everything I Believed

The room felt smaller.

The walls of the Robertson Estate—the same walls where I grew up, where my mother sang to me, where my father taught me how to ride a bicycle—suddenly felt like they were holding secrets instead of memories.

Marcus Hale's accusation hung in the air.

"The person you trusted most."

Everyone looked at my father.

Including me.

And that hurt more than I wanted to admit.

Because there was one thing I had always believed without question:

My father was the one person who would never hurt me.

Dad stared at Marcus.

"You have five seconds to explain yourself."

Marcus didn't move.

"You always did this, Finnley."

"Whenever someone got too close to the truth, you used power to silence them."

Agent Mitchell immediately stepped between them.

"Everyone stays calm."

"We are going to separate facts from accusations."

She looked at Marcus.

"Start from the beginning."

Marcus smiled slightly.

"Of course."

He looked around the room.

"The beginning was thirty years ago."

"Before Robertson Global became what it is today."

"Before Finnley Robertson became a legend."

My father said nothing.

And that silence bothered me.

Marcus continued.

"Your grandfather, William Robertson, created the foundation of this empire."

"He had two sons."

"Finnley."

"And Richard."

"But everyone forgets something."

"He also had a daughter."

I frowned.

"A daughter?"

My father looked surprised.

"You never told me about her."

Marcus looked at him.

"Because you didn't know."

Agent Mitchell looked at Marcus.

"Who was she?"

"Amelia Robertson."

"The first child."

"The one your grandfather trusted most."

I stared at him.

"Why have I never heard of her?"

Marcus's expression became darker.

"Because the Robertson family erased her."

Dad immediately interrupted.

"That's a lie."

Marcus looked at him.

"Is it?"

"Then explain why her name appears nowhere in the company history."

"Explain why every photograph of the original Robertson family has been edited."

"Explain why her shares disappeared."

Nobody spoke.

Because nobody had an answer.

I turned toward my father.

"Dad?"

He looked away.

That was the moment I realized something.

My father wasn't shocked by Amelia's existence.

He was shocked that Marcus knew.

"Who was she?" I asked again.

My father finally answered.

"Your grandfather's daughter."

"My aunt."

"And she died before I took control of the company."

Marcus laughed quietly.

"Convenient."

Agent Mitchell looked at Marcus.

"You claimed Hailey's mother discovered the truth."

"How does that connect?"

Marcus reached into his briefcase.

He pulled out another document.

This one was older.

Much older.

"Because Eleanor discovered Amelia's files."

"My wife?"

My father's voice cracked.

Marcus nodded.

"She discovered that William Robertson had created a second trust."

"One that did not belong to Finnley."

"Or Richard."

"It belonged to Amelia's descendants."

I felt confused.

"What does this have to do with me?"

Marcus looked at me.

"Everything."

He placed the document on the table.

At the bottom was a name.

Eleanor Robertson.

My mother's signature.

"This is impossible," my father whispered.

Marcus looked at him.

"Your wife found the truth."

"And she was going to tell Hailey."

I stepped back.

"My mother knew?"

"Yes."

"She knew everything?"

"She knew enough."

The room became silent.

Then Agent Mitchell spoke.

"If this document is authentic, it changes the entire Robertson inheritance structure."

Marcus nodded.

"Exactly."

"Which is why someone wanted it buried."

My father looked furious.

"You're suggesting I killed my wife?"

Marcus didn't answer.

That was worse.

Because he didn't need to.

The accusation was already there.

I looked at my father.

"Dad."

His eyes met mine.

Pain filled them.

"Hailey..."

"Did Mom find something?"

He didn't answer.

"Dad."

Finally...

he whispered:

"Yes."

My heart broke.

"You knew?"

"I knew she was investigating."

"You knew she was scared."

"You knew she wanted to talk to me."

"And you never told me?"

His eyes filled.

"I was trying to protect you."

I shook my head.

"From what?"

"From the truth."

Before I could say anything else...

the lights went out.

The entire estate went dark.

Security alarms immediately activated.

Daniel shouted into his radio.

"Power failure across the property."

"Backup systems are offline."

Agent Mitchell looked around.

"This isn't a normal outage."

A second later...

every screen in the room turned on.

A video appeared.

A woman sitting in a dark room.

Older.

Tired.

But unmistakably familiar.

My breath stopped.

Because I knew that face.

Even after all these years.

"Mom..."

The entire room froze.

My mother looked directly into the camera.

And then she spoke.

"If you are watching this..."

"Something has happened to me."

My hands covered my mouth.

Tears filled my eyes.

Her voice continued.

"I recorded this message because I discovered something dangerous."

"The person destroying our family is not who you think."

My father stared at the screen.

"Eleanor..."

My mother's recorded eyes moved slightly.

Almost like she was looking directly at him.

Then she said:

"Finnley..."

"If Hailey is watching this..."

"Do not let her trust you."

The room went completely silent.

My father stepped backward.

Like he had been physically hit.

The video continued.

"I loved you."

"But I learned the truth too late."

"The person responsible for everything..."

"...is someone you have protected your entire life."

The screen flickered.

Then one final sentence appeared.

A sentence that changed everything.

"Hailey, the man who raised you is not your biological father."

Nobody breathed.

Nobody moved.

I looked at my father.

He looked at me.

And in that moment...

May you like

the entire world I knew collapsed.
