Chapter 18 - The Final Trap

Khloe had no intention of walking into Victor’s facility alone.

She also had no intention of leaving Marcus to die.

Federal agents created a tracking plan.

Elaine carried a hidden transmitter.

Richard coordinated with the medical team.

Khloe remained inside an armored vehicle two blocks from the facility while agents entered through an underground service line.

Victor expected her to arrive in person.

Instead, she appeared on a live video call.

His face filled the screen.

“You always were your father’s daughter.”

“You never knew my father.”

“I knew what frightened him.”

Khloe looked behind Victor.

Marcus remained tied to the chair.

His eyes met hers.

He shook his head slowly.

Do not cooperate.

Victor held up a small drive.

“The trust code.”

“You said I had it.”

“You have the final authorization.”

“How?”

“The baby’s prenatal file contains a biometric sequence.”

Khloe felt sick.

Victor had turned even her child’s medical records into a key.

“The hospital system created it during your first ultrasound.”

Richard whispered from beside the vehicle.

“He needs your live confirmation.”

Khloe understood.

The code required her voice or image.

Victor moved closer to the camera.

“Authorize the transfer.”

“To you?”

“To a company that will survive this scandal.”

“Crimson Meridian.”

Victor smiled.

“Isabella believed she owned it.”

“But you owned her.”

“I owned her ambition.”

Khloe kept him talking.

Federal agents moved through the facility below.

“Did Isabella know you planned to endanger my baby?”

“She knew enough.”

“Did Marcus?”

Victor looked toward him.

“Marcus knew the system could declare you unstable.”

Marcus lowered his head.

“He did not know I planned for complications.”

Khloe’s voice remained steady.

“You altered my hospital care.”

“I ensured several possible outcomes.”

“You mean you prepared for my death.”

“I prepared for every weakness.”

Marcus suddenly leaned forward.

“The transmitter is under the west table.”

Victor turned.

Marcus had seen an agent’s reflection in a metal cabinet.

Victor reached for a weapon.

The lights went out.

Agents entered through two doors.

A brief struggle followed in the darkness.

Khloe heard shouting through the call.

Then the video feed fell sideways.

The camera showed the concrete floor.

Marcus’s chair crashed onto its side.

Victor ran toward an emergency exit.

Elaine appeared in the doorway and blocked his path.

He grabbed her arm.

She struck the fire alarm.

Metal shutters dropped across the exit.

Victor was trapped.

Federal agents surrounded him.

He looked into the fallen camera and saw Khloe watching.

For the first time, his composure broke.

“You do not understand what you are destroying.”

Khloe leaned closer to the screen.

“I understand perfectly.”

“You need my system.”

“No.”

She looked toward the monitor displaying the files her father had preserved.

“We need the truth.”

Victor was placed in handcuffs.

Marcus was freed.

He picked up the fallen camera.

His face appeared close to the screen.

“Khloe.”

She waited.

“I am sorry.”

The apology sounded real.

It was still too late.

“Tell the investigators everything.”

“I will.”

“Not for me.”

Marcus closed his eyes.

“For our child.”

Khloe touched her stomach.

“For every person your company hurt.”

The first contraction came without warning.

She gripped the seat.

Richard saw her face.

“Khloe?”

Another contraction followed.

Stronger.

Her water broke across the floor of the armored vehicle.

The medical team rushed forward.

Khloe kept her eyes on Marcus for one final second.

Then the screen went dark.
