Six months later, the courthouse steps were crowded with reporters.

Samuel Reed returned as chief security architect.

Richard spent his time helping federal investigators identify victims.

“What is it?”

At the bottom of the letter was a photograph.

Khloe recognized the fourth face immediately.

The woman had held Hope only three weeks earlier.

The woman Khloe believed had been living overseas for twenty years.

Her mother.

A soft sound came from the crib.

Khloe looked toward Hope.

Then her phone rang.

Unknown number.

She answered without speaking.

A woman’s voice came through the line.

“Khloe.”

Her mother sounded calm.

“You finally found Daniel’s letter.”

Khloe stared at the photograph.

“Where are you?”

A faint laugh answered her.

“Closer than you think.”

The lights inside the office went out.

Across the street, a dark figure stood on the roof of the opposite building.

Watching.

Khloe moved toward Hope.

Her mother’s voice returned.

“Victor wanted the company.”

A long pause followed.

“I wanted the child.”

The call ended.

Elaine locked the office door.

Khloe lifted Hope from the crib and held her close.

Outside, the figure disappeared into the darkness.

The first conspiracy had ended.

The truth about Marcus had been exposed.

Isabella had fallen.

Victor had been captured.

But the oldest secret inside the Hale family was still alive.
